3/21/2006 Panel cites Guidant patient-safety lapses In January 21, 2006: Guidant Corporation has recalled an additional 77,500 pacemakers that are defective that could cause serious injury and death. This is in addition to over 100,000 pacemakers and defibrillators and ICDs that have been recalled in the past year. Guidant knew of the serious malfunctions that could cause death in 2002, but did not notify the FDA until 2005. These devices are:
